The Postpartum Period: Making Sense of Your Personal Experience
|
The postpartum period is most often portrayed as the happiest time in a woman's life. For many, this is a reality, while others are left experiencing a broad spectrum of confusing and unexpected emotions. This workshop is designed as an interactive opportunity for women to learn about the postpartum period and to share their personal experiences. Education will be provided on the six postpartum mood disorders that some women may experience after giving birth. In addition, support and guidance will be provided on how a woman can move forward when her postpartum experience is not how she had envisioned it.
This workshop is also available to individual couples seeking a private opportunity to receive information and guidance in making sense of their personal experience.
Jodi K. Hitchcock, MSW, will be facilitating this workshop. Mrs. Hitchcock, who specializes in perinatal social work, has been researching and studying the postpartum period and experiences of women for the last five years. Her work has been under the guidance of Dr. Kimberly Zittel-Palamara and the Postpartum Mood Disorder Initiative (PMDI). Mrs. Hitchcock's work has been at a community level providing outreach, education and awareness through her work with individuals, agencies, educational institutions and professional trainings and conferences. She is passionate about providing women with the knowledge and tools necessary for them to have the best possible postpartum experience and she is excited to be able to offer this at the Care Connection.
